Downtown Sacramento Engagement Photos at The Crest Theater for J+A

Sacramento boasts a diverse array of engagement session photo locations, and for J+A, the choice was pretty easy – they wanted an artsy and dramatic backdrop that resonated with their shared passion for photography and vintage Sacramento charm. Opting for The Crest Theater, a stunning historic venue nestled on K Street in the heart of Downtown Sacramento, just a stone's throw away from the state capitol, proved to be an inspired decision.

The Crest Theater, in first opened in 1912 and has undergone numerous restoration projects, with the latest one focusing on transforming its screening rooms into a restaurant. Beyond its rich history, this venue serves as a hub for independent films, concerts, and events. What's more, it graciously opens its doors for photo shoots, allowing the marquee to be personalized for a truly unique touch.

Our engagement session, conveniently scheduled for the week after Thanksgiving in 2023, benefited from the cool overcast setting outside the theater. Coordinating with the venue, we made the most of their ambient lighting for captivating indoor shots. Leveraging the couple's expertise in swing dancing, we seamlessly incorporated their moves into some of the shots, adding an extra layer of personality.

Having the opportunity to shoot once again in this iconic location was a delight, and being part of J+A's engagement has only heightened the excitement for capturing their upcoming wedding later this year.
